Doctor Kazti’s work doesn’t scream professionalism though. A hand-painted sign in the window displaying the same symbol and the words “Here TO HELP The Hurt Goddess Inside” shows we’re in the right place.

‘I’m starting to think,’ I say slowly, ‘that he’s not actually a real medical doctor.’

‘Shh!’ which seems slightly rude to what was a fair comment. Until I feel a don’t look here snap into place and see who has turned up.

Madame Lasson comes hurrying up the road, clutching her purse. She swings her head wildly around as she reaches the entrance to the parking spaces, her eyes scanning left and right with about the subtlety of a drunk bull trying to tiptoe in high heels. She’s clearly not practised in spycraft, although I guess there’s not been much requirement for that in her privileged life. At least not until now. Not that it would have done her any good, of course. Despite her funky necklace, she has no magic of her own. It doesn’t matter how much she cranes and peers about, she’s not going to spot us under Aicha’s carefully constructed spell.
